Tribes of Macedonia and Other Greek States
Triballi
Alexander moved swiftly to crush the uprisings among the barbarians by advancing with his army. Alexander defeated Syrmus, King of the Triballi, in a great battle, annihilating the Triballi.
Thebes
The Thebians led the revolt against Alexander. He offered the citizens the opportunity to repent of their actions by demanding the surrender of their leaders, Phoenix and Prothytes, and offering amnesty if the Thebians would come over to his side. However, the Thebians counter-demanded the surrender of Philotas and Antipater but this was rejected by Alexander so the two forces met in battle; Alexander was victorious, killing six thousand Thebians in the battle. He spared Thebians who had friendly relations with Macedonia, were descendants of the poet Pundar, who had opposed the revolt or who were priests. The rest were publicly sold into slavery.
Athens
The Athenians were a part of the Thebian revolt but after the fall of Thebes (and the treatment of the defeated Thebians), they came to terms with Alexander.
